CESNET-QUIC22: A large one-month QUIC network traffic dataset from backbone lines.

ABSTRACT: The QUIC (Quick UDP Internet Connection) protocol has the potential to replace TLS over TCP, which is the standard choice for reliable and secure Internet communication. Due to its design that makes the inspection of QUIC handshakes challenging and its usage in HTTP/3, there is an increasing demand for research in QUIC traffic analysis. This dataset contains one month of QUIC traffic collected in an ISP backbone network, which connects 500 large institutions and serves around half a million people. The data are delivered as enriched flows that can be useful for various network monitoring tasks. The provided server names and packet-level information allow research in the encrypted traffic classification area. Moreover, included QUIC versions and user agents (smartphone, web browser, and operating system identifiers) provide information for large-scale QUIC deployment studies.

One Way Traffic: Base-to-Backbone Hole Transfer in Nucleoside Phosphorodithioate.

Project description:The directionality of the hole-transfer processes between DNA backbone and base was investigated by using phosphorodithioate [P(S- )=S] components. ESR spectroscopy in homogeneous frozen aqueous solutions and pulse radiolysis in aqueous solution at ambient temperature confirmed initial formation of G.+ -P(S- )=S. The ionization potential of G-P(S- )=S was calculated to be slightly lower than that of guanine in 5'-dGMP. Subsequent thermally activated hole transfer from G.+ to P(S- )=S led to dithiyl radical (P-2S. ) formation on the μs timescale. In parallel, ESR spectroscopy, pulse radiolysis, and density functional theory (DFT) calculations confirmed P-2S. formation in an abasic phosphorodithioate model compound. ESR investigations at low temperatures and higher G-P(S- )=S concentrations showed a bimolecular conversion of P-2S. to the σ2 -σ*1 -bonded dimer anion radical [-P-2S -. 2S-P-]- [ΔG (150 K, DFT)=-7.2 kcal mol-1 ]. However, [-P-2S -. 2S-P-]- formation was not observed by pulse radiolysis [ΔG° (298 K, DFT)=-1.4 kcal mol-1 ]. Neither P-2S. nor [-P-2S -. 2S-P-]- oxidized guanine base; only base-to-backbone hole transfer occurs in phosphorodithioate.

ITC-net-audio-5: an audio streaming dataset for application identification in network traffic classification.

There are a few publicly available datasets that specifically capture streaming data from network-based applications. Therefore, our objective is to generate an up-to-date dataset with a focus on audio streaming data. This dataset can be a valuable resource for identifying audio streaming applications in the field of network traffic classification.Data descriptionThe dataset contains network traffic captured during audio streaming communications on five trending applications: Google Meet, Skype, Telegram, WhatsApp, and SoundCloud. It includes 500 files in PCAP format captured by Wireshark and PCAPdroid tools during voice calls and online music playback. The concurrent utilization of these tools facilitates the avoidance of capturing background traffic.

Swedish civil air traffic control dataset.

Project description:The Swedish Civil Air Traffic Control (SCAT) dataset consists of 13 weeks of data collected from the area control in Sweden flight information region. The dataset consists of detailed data from almost 170,000 flights as well as airspace data and weather forecasts. The flight data includes system updated flight plans, clearances from air traffic control, surveillance data and trajectory prediction data. Each week of data is continuous but the 13 weeks are spread over one year to provide variations in weather and seasonal traffic patterns. The dataset does only include scheduled flights not involved in any incident reports. Sensitive data such as military and private flight has been removed. The SCAT dataset can be useful for any research related to air traffic control, e.g. analysis of transportation patterns, environmental impact, optimization and automation/AI.

Transition characteristic analysis of traffic evolution process for urban traffic network.

Project description:The characterization of the dynamics of traffic states remains fundamental to seeking for the solutions of diverse traffic problems. To gain more insights into traffic dynamics in the temporal domain, this paper explored temporal characteristics and distinct regularity in the traffic evolution process of urban traffic network. We defined traffic state pattern through clustering multidimensional traffic time series using self-organizing maps and construct a pattern transition network model that is appropriate for representing and analyzing the evolution progress. The methodology is illustrated by an application to data flow rate of multiple road sections from Network of Shenzhen's Nanshan District, China. Analysis and numerical results demonstrated that the methodology permits extracting many useful traffic transition characteristics including stability, preference, activity, and attractiveness. In addition, more information about the relationships between these characteristics was extracted, which should be helpful in understanding the complex behavior of the temporal evolution features of traffic patterns.

Dataset of traffic accidents in motorcyclists in Bogota, Colombia.

Project description:According to the World Health Organization, in 2016, Colombia obtained the tenth position worldwide, the third in the continent and the second in South America, according to the accident rate of 9.7 motorcycle fatalities per 100,000 populations. Between 2012 and 2021, the number of deceased and injured motorcyclists among all road users was 50%, with an annual average of 3140 fatal victims and 20,800 injured victims. Bogotá, Cali, and Medellín were the cities with the most accidents. In Bogota in 2017, the deaths of motorcyclists on the roads were around 32% of the road actors. This data article presents the dataset used to analyze and predict the severity of motorcyclist road accidents in Bogota in the article entitled "Extraction of decision rules using genetic algorithms and simulated annealing for prediction of severity of traffic accidents by motorcyclists" [1]. The data set was consolidated from the registration of 175,245 traffic accidents and the report of 337,828 road actors involved in crashes in Bogotá between January 2013 and February 2018. The data was compiled, processed, and enriched with additional information about infrastructure and weather conditions. The data corresponds to 35,693 motorcyclist traffic accidents, represented by 28 variables, and classified into five categories: road actors, motorcyclists and individuals involved, weather conditions and timing, road conditions and location and characteristics of the accident. The data on motorcyclist traffic accidents opens up a scenario to deepen and compare road safety in Latin America, where studies on vulnerable road users are limited. According to severity, the data on motorcycle traffic accidents recorded 28% with material damage, 69% with injured and 3% with fatal victims.

Encrypted Web traffic dataset: Event logs and packet traces.

Project description:We present a dataset that captures seven days of monitoring data from eight servers hosting more than 800 sites across a large campus network. The dataset contains data from network monitoring and host-based monitoring. The first set of data are packet traces collected by a probe situated on the network link in front of the web servers. The traces contain encrypted HTTP over TLS 1.2 communication between clients and web servers. The second set of data is an event log captured directly on the web servers. The events are generated by the Internet Information Services (IIS) logging and include both the IIS default features and custom features, such as client port and transferred data volume. Anonymization of all features in the dataset has been carefully carried out to prevent private information leakage while preserving the information value of the dataset. The dataset is suitable mainly for training machine learning techniques for anomaly detection and the identification of relationships between network traffic and events on web servers. We also add tools, settings, and a guide to convert the packet traces to IP flows that are often preferred for network traffic analysis.

Dataset of ocean vessel traffic in the North Sea.

Project description:Automatic Identification System (AIS) is a technology that allows ships to broadcast their position, course, speed, and other information to other vessels or shore-based stations. By collecting and analysing this data, it is possible to create a heatmap of ship activity in a particular region, such as the North Sea. This heatmap acts as a representation of vessel activity per class. A heatmap in a standard geoinformatics format may be preferable to scientific researchers as it would quickly allow users to overlay their own data onto the vessel density layer thus providing spatial context and an ability to compare their dataset to the distribution and intensity of ship activity in a particular region. This dataset represents ocean vessel activity in the North Sea for 2022 and was created using AIS data collected using multiple coastal receivers. The dataset was created from reported vessel positions aggregated both spatially and temporally. The end goal of this data processing is to provide a publicly available spatial layer that can be queried to provide monthly vessel traffic statistics for a region in the North Sea. The data was spatially filtered to only include AIS messages for Latitudes between 49.5 and 53.8 degrees North, and 0.2 and 7 degrees East. The bounding box was chosen as it includes Belgium canals and the Belgium part of the North Sea. The dataset has multiple uses as a collaboration dataset, some example of use-cases that this dataset has been used for include using it asa time-series of statistical priors for vessel classes in order to improve vessel classification algorithms and to visualise vessel behaviour in order to locate potential mooring sites where the risk of potential fishing net snags is low. It has also been used to locate areas of potential anchor scarring in anchorages near ports.

Identification of critical links in a large-scale road network considering the traffic flow betweenness index.

Project description:The traditional full-scan method is commonly used for identifying critical links in road networks. This method simulates each link to be closed iteratively and measures its impact on the efficiency of the whole network. It can accurately identify critical links. However, in this method, traffic assignments are conducted under all scenarios of link disruption, making this process prohibitively time-consuming for large-scale road networks. This paper proposes an approach considering the traffic flow betweenness index (TFBI) to identify critical links, which can significantly reduce the computational burden compared with the traditional full-scan method. The TFBI consists of two parts: traffic flow betweenness and endpoint origin-destination (OD) demand (rerouted travel demand). There is a weight coefficient between these two parts. Traffic flow betweenness is established by considering the shortest travel-time path betweenness, link traffic flow and total OD demand. The proposed approach consists of the following main steps. First, a sample road network is selected to calibrate the weight coefficient between traffic flow betweenness and endpoint OD demand in the TFBI using the network robustness index. This index calculates changes in the whole-system travel time due to each link's closure under the traditional full-scan method. Then, candidate critical links are pre-selected according to the TFBI value of each link. Finally, a given number of real critical links are identified from the candidate critical links using the traditional full-scan method. The applicability and computational efficiency of the TFBI-based approach are demonstrated for the road network in Changchun, China.

Process-based network decomposition reveals backbone motif structure.

Project description:A central challenge in systems biology today is to understand the network of interactions among biomolecules and, especially, the organizing principles underlying such networks. Recent analysis of known networks has identified small motifs that occur ubiquitously, suggesting that larger networks might be constructed in the manner of electronic circuits by assembling groups of these smaller modules. Using a unique process-based approach to analyzing such networks, we show for two cell-cycle networks that each of these networks contains a giant backbone motif spanning all the network nodes that provides the main functional response. The backbone is in fact the smallest network capable of providing the desired functionality. Furthermore, the remaining edges in the network form smaller motifs whose role is to confer stability properties rather than provide function. The process-based approach used in the above analysis has additional benefits: It is scalable, analytic (resulting in a single analyzable expression that describes the behavior), and computationally efficient (all possible minimal networks for a biological process can be identified and enumerated).

Assessment of increased knowledge about traffic accidents prevention, one month after a presentation included in the program "it can happen to you" of AESLEME.

Project description:Road traffic accidents are a real pandemic and incur expenses amounting to 1-2% of every country's GDP. AESLEME (Association for the Study of Spinal Cord Injuries) has celebrated its 30th anniversary here in Spain. AESLEME's instructors are health workers and people with spinal cord injuries caused by road accidents: their presentations-teaching road safety and sharing information on irreversible injuries-are enhanced by personal stories that help schoolchildren to acquire knowledge on this matter.Study designPre and post-quasi-experimental study.ObjectiveTo assess the increase in knowledge about road safety following a school-based road safety campaign.MethodsTwo multiple-choice tests were given to each of the 8106 students taking part, who were 12-14 years old. Of the four possible answers, only one of them was correct. The first multiple-choice test was taken before the presentation and the second was taken one month later.ResultsAfter assessing the answers, there was a change in the tendency of the number of correct before/after answers for the multiple-choice test, and the number of correct ones rose one month after the presentation. This increase is statistically significant (p < 0.01) and represents a national increase of 61% in the probability of correct answers, although this varies from 8% to 278% depending on the region.ConclusionsThe assessment, involving over 8000 people, showed that there has been an improvement in road safety knowledge thanks to education provided by AESLEME's instructors, and a statistically significant increase was obtained throughout Spain and different regions.
