Non-lethal doses of ionizing radiation (IR) delivered to humans because of terrorist events, nuclear accidents or radiotherapy can result in carcinogenesis. Means of protecting against carcinogenesis are lacking. We questioned the role of the gut microbiome in IR-induced carcinogenesis.
