Hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF) and aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AHR) are members of the bHLH-PAS family of transcription factors that underpin cellular responses to oxygen and to endogenous and exogenous ligands, respectively, and have central roles in the pathogenesis of renal cancer.
