A human mobility dataset collected via LBSLab.

ABSTRACT: Location-Based Services (LBS) have been prosperous owing to technological advancements of smart devices. Analyzing location-based user-generated data is a helpful way to understand human mobility patterns, further fueling applications such as recommender systems and urban computing. This dataset documents user activities of location-based services through LBSLab, a smartphone-based system implemented as a mini-program in the WeChat app. The dataset contains activity data of multiple types including logins, profile viewing, weather checking, and check-ins with location information (latitude and longitude), POI and mood indicated, collected from 467 users over a period of 11 days. We also present some temporal and spatial data analysis and believe the reuse of the data will allow researchers to better understand user behaviors of LBS, human mobility, and also temporal and spatial characteristics of people's moods.

A dataset of road-killed vertebrates collected via citizen science from 2014-2020.

Project description:Data on road-killed animals is essential for assessing the impact of roads on biodiversity. In most European countries data on road-killed huntable wildlife exists, but data on other vertebrate species (e.g. amphibians, reptiles, small mammals) is scarce. Therefore, we conducted a citizen science project on road-killed vertebrates as a useful supplement to data on huntable wildlife collected by public authorities. The dataset contains 15198 reports with 17163 individual road-killed vertebrates collected by 912 participants. The reports were made in 44 countries, but the majority of data was reported in Austria. We implemented a data validation routine which led to three quality levels. Reports in quality level 1 are published via GBIF, reports in quality level 2 via Zenodo and reports in quality level 3 were deleted. The dataset is relevant for the scientific community studying impacts of roads on fauna as well as for those who are responsible for road planning and implementing mitigation measures.

Motion behaviour recognition dataset collected from human perception of collective motion behaviour.

Project description:Collective motion behaviour such as the movement of swarming bees, flocking birds or schooling fish has inspired computer-based swarming systems. They are widely used in agent formation control, including aerial and ground vehicles, teams of rescue robots, and exploration of dangerous environments with groups of robots. Collective motion behaviour is easy to describe, but highly subjective to detect. Humans can easily recognise these behaviours; however, it is hard for a computer system to recognise them. Since humans can easily recognise these behaviours, ground truth data from human perception is one way to enable machine learning methods to mimic this human perception. Hence ground truth data has been collected from human perception of collective motion behaviour recognition by running an online survey. In this survey, participants provide their opinion about the behaviour of 'boid' point masses. Each question of the survey contains a short video (around 10 seconds), captured from simulated boid movements. Participants were asked to drag a slider to label each video as either 'flocking' or 'not flocking'; 'aligned' or 'not aligned' or 'grouped' or 'not grouped'. By averaging these responses, three binary labels were created for each video. This data has been analysed to confirm that it is possible for a machine to learn binary classification labels from the human perception of collective behaviour dataset with high accuracy.

Multiyear Maize Management Dataset collected in Chiapas, Mexico.

Project description:For several decades, maize (Zea mays L.) management decisions in smallholder farming in tropical regions have been a puzzle. To best balance alternative management practices' environmental and economic outcomes, an extensive dataset was gathered through CIMMYT's knowledge hub in Chiapas, a state in southern Mexico. In a knowledge hub, farmers, with the support of farm advisors, compare conventional and improved agronomic practices side-by-side and install demonstration fields where they implement improved practices. In all these fields data on on-farm operations and results is collected. The dataset was assembled using field variables (yield, cultivars, fertilization and tillage practice), as well as environment variables from soil mapping (slope, elevation, soil texture, pH and organic matter concentration) and gridded weather datasets (precipitation, temperature, radiation and evapotranspiration). The dataset contains observations from 4585 fields and comprises a period of 7 years between 2012 and 2018. This dataset will facilitate analytical approaches to represent spatial and temporal variability of alternative crop management decisions based on observational data and explain model-generated predictions for maize in Chiapas, Mexico. In addition, this data can serve as an example for similar efforts in Big Data in Agriculture.

The MOBIS dataset: a large GPS dataset of mobility behaviour in Switzerland.

Project description:This article presents the MOBIS dataset and underlying survey methods used in its collection. The MOBIS study was a nation-wide randomised controlled trial (RCT) of transport pricing in Switzerland, utilising a combination of postal recruitment, online surveys, and GPS tracking. 21,571 persons completed the first online survey, and 3680 persons completed 8 weeks of GPS tracking. Many continued tracking for over a year after the study was completed. In the field experiment, participants participated through the use of a GPS tracking app, Catch-my-Day, which logged their daily travel on different transport modes and imputed the trip segments and modes. The experiment lasted 8 weeks, bookended by two online surveys. After the first 4-week control phase, participants were split into two different treatment groups and a continued control group. An analysis of the survey participation shows that the technology is capable of supporting such an experiment on both Android and iOS, the two main mobile platforms. Significant differences in the engagement and attrition were observed between iOS and Android participants over the 8-week period. Finally, the attrition rate did not vary between treatment groups. This paper also reports on the wealth of data that are being made available for further research, which includes over 3 million trip stages and activities, labelled with transport mode and purpose respectively.Supplementary informationThe online version contains supplementary material available at 10.1007/s11116-022-10299-4.

Flow cytometry dataset for cells collected from touched surfaces.

Project description:'Touch' or trace cell mixtures submitted as evidence are a significant problem for forensic laboratories as they can render resulting genetic profiles difficult or even impossible to interpret. Optical signatures that distinguish epidermal cell populations from different contributors could facilitate the physical separation of mixture components prior to genetic analysis, and potentially the downstream production of single source profiles and/or simplified mixtures. This dataset comprises the results from antibody hybridization surveys using Human Leukocyte Antigen (HLA) and Cytokeratin (CK) probes, as well as surveys of optical properties of deposited cells, including forward scatter (FSC), side scatter (SSC), and fluorescence emissions in the Allophycocyanin (APC) channel. All analyses were performed on "touch" samples deposited by several different contributors on multiple days to assess inter- and intra-contributor variability.

Project description:In this dataset we present soil data analyses with properties such as pH, organic matter (OM), salinity (EC), etc., major elements (N, P, K, Mg) as well as some microelements (Fe, Zn, Mn, Cu, B) with significant impact on plant nutrition. The samples were collected from the top 30 cm of the soil depth through a period of 5 successive years. The survey area is in the regional unit of Grevena in northern Greece. This dataset can be used to evaluate the status of the soil for a variety of tasks.

Bluetooth dataset for proximity detection in indoor environments collected with smartphones.

Project description:This paper describes a data collection experiment and the resulting dataset based on Bluetooth beacon messages collected in an indoor museum. The goal of this dataset is to study algorithms and techniques for proximity detection between people and points of interest (POI). To this purpose, we release the data we collected during 32 museum's visits, in which we vary the adopted smartphones and the visiting paths. The smartphone is used to collect Bluetooth beacons emitted by Bluetooth tags positioned nearby each POI. The visiting layout defines the order of visit of 10 artworks. The combination of different smartphones, the visiting paths and features of the indoor museum allow experiencing with realistic environmental conditions. The dataset comprises RSS (Received Signal Strength) values, timestamp and artwork identifiers, as long as a detailed ground truth, reporting the starting and ending time of each artwork's visit. The dataset is addressed to researchers and industrial players interested in further investigating how to automatically detect the location or the proximity between people and specific points of interest, by exploiting commercial technologies available with smartphone. The dataset is designed to speed up the prototyping process, by releasing an accurate ground truth annotation and details concerning the adopted hardware.

Dataset of depressive posts in Russian language collected from social media.

Project description:This paper presents dataset collected from social networks that are mostly used by youth of Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries. The data was collected from public accounts of VKontakte social network by using VK.api and applying the most used keywords that would signify depressive mood. The collected data was classified by psychologists into two types: depressive and non-depressive. The dataset consists of 32 018 depressive posts and 32 021 non-depressive posts. Since the most common language that is spoken in CIS countries is Russian, the posts are written in Russian, consequently the collected data is in Russian language as well. The data can mostly be useful for researchers who explore tendencies to depression in CIS countries. The dataset is important for the research community, as it was not only collected from open sources, but also marked by our psychiatrists from the republican scientific and practical center of mental health. Since the dataset has very high validity, it can be used for further research in the field of mental health.

CAPTURE-24: A large dataset of wrist-worn activity tracker data collected in the wild for human activity recognition.

Project description:Existing activity tracker datasets for human activity recognition are typically obtained by having participants perform predefined activities in an enclosed environment under supervision. This results in small datasets with a limited number of activities and heterogeneity, lacking the mixed and nuanced movements normally found in free-living scenarios. As such, models trained on laboratory-style datasets may not generalise out of sample. To address this problem, we introduce a new dataset involving wrist-worn accelerometers, wearable cameras, and sleep diaries, enabling data collection for over 24 hours in a free-living setting. The result is CAPTURE-24, a large activity tracker dataset collected in the wild from 151 participants, amounting to 3883 hours of accelerometer data, of which 2562 hours are annotated. CAPTURE-24 is two to three orders of magnitude larger than existing publicly available datasets, which is critical to developing accurate human activity recognition models.
