Project description:BackgroundDepression commonly occurs in heart failure patients, and negatively influences quality of life and disease prognosis. This study explored heart failure and depression-related research from a bibliometric perspective.MethodsRelevant publications were searched on June 24, 2022. The Bibliometrix package in R was used to conduct quantitative analyses including the trends in publications, and related countries, articles, authors and keywords. VOSviewer software was used to conduct the visualization map on co-word, co-author, and institution co-authorship analyses. CiteSpace software was used to illustrate the top keywords with citation burst.ResultsA total of 8,221 publications in the heart failure and depression-related research field were published between 1983 and 2022. In this field, the United States had the most publications (N = 3,013; 36.65%) and highest total citation (N = 149, 376), followed by China, Germany, Italy and Japan. Author Moser and Duke University were the most productive author and institution, respectively. Circulation is the most influential journal. Apart from "heart failure" and "depression," "quality of life," "mortality" and "myocardial infarction" were the most frequently used keywords in this research area; whereas more recently, "self care" and "anxiety" have been used more frequently.ConclusionThis bibliometric analysis showed a rapid growth of research related to heart failure and depression from 1989 to 2021, which was mostly led by North America and Europe. Future directions in this research area include issues concerning self-care and anxiety about heart failure. As most of the existing literature were published in English, publications in other languages should be examined in the future.

Project description:BackgroundThe clinical application value of cardiopulmonary exercise test (CPET) has increasingly attracted attention, and related research has been increasing yearly. However, there is no summary analysis of the existing CPET literature. This is the first bibliometric analysis of publications in the CPET.MethodsCPET-related articles published between 2002 and 2021 were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection database. The search was limited to Articles and Reviews in English. CiteSpace software was used to conduct collaborative network analysis of countries/regions, institutions, authors, the co-occurrence of subject categories and keywords, and co-citation analysis of authors, journals, and references.ResultsA total of 4,426 publications were identified. During the study period, the number of published articles increased yearly. Developed countries from the Americas and Europe led the field. The University of Milan was the most prolific institution, with Ross Arena and Wasserman K being the most prolific and co-cited authors in the field, respectively. Cardiovascular System & Cardiology and Respiratory System were the main areas involved. Moreover, heart failure, oxygen uptake, and prognostic value were the central themes.ConclusionsCPET had attracted widespread attention, and the number of publications will increase substantially according to the current growth trends. In the future, CPET is expected to be further adopted in large-scale clinical studies as a means of assessing the functional ability of patients to verify the efficacy of related interventions. High-quality evidence-based medical CPET-related indicators is expected to be used in clinical diseases risk prediction.

Project description:Glycolipid metabolic diseases, including type 2 diabetes, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, obesity, hypertension, dyslipidemia, and atherosclerosis, which have become a major public health concern worldwide, are mainly triggered by hepatic glycolipid metabolism disorder. Bibliometric analysis has provided a comprehensive review of developments in hepatic glycolipid metabolism research and changes in research hotspots over the past 20 years. The articles regarding hepatic glycolipid metabolism from 2002 to 2021 were identified from the Science Citation Index-Expanded of Web of Science Core Collection. Acquired data were then processed by the CiteSpace software and the Online Analysis Platform of Literature Metrology to analyze trends and predict hot spots in this field. A total of 4,856 articles regarding hepatic glycolipid metabolism published from 2002 to 2021 were selected. The leading country was China. The Chinese Academy of Sciences was the most productive institution. Co-citation cluster labels revealed characteristics of ten main clusters: non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, gut microbiota, adiponectin, fructose, fgf21, fatty acid, liver x receptor, nr4a, obese mice, and bile acids. Keyword bursts analysis indicated that management, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, and modulation were the newly emerging research hot spots. We described the overall structure of scientific research on hepatic glycolipid metabolism and presented systematic information to other researchers. The current focus on NAFLD and gut microbiota is critical to further study and will help explore effective therapeutic strategy for aberrant glycolipid metabolism in liver.

Project description:BackgroundIt is known that inflammatory bowel disease is the result of a defective immune system, and immunotherapy and biological therapy have gradually become important means to treat it. This paper focused on the bibliometric statistical analysis of the current research progress to summarize the research status of this field and analyze the research trends in recent years.MethodsTwo visualization tools, CiteSpace and VOSviewer, were used to explore the data of journals, institutions, countries/regions, authors, references, and keywords for the literature included in the Web of Science Core Collection from January 1, 2002, to December 31, 2021.ResultsA total of 312 papers were published in 120 journals by 603 institutions from 40 countries/regions, with 9463 co-cited references. The United States has the most publications with the highest total citations in the world. Inflammatory Bowel Diseases published the maximum number of papers, and Gastroenterology devoted the most co-citations to immunotherapy and biological therapy for IBD. In addition, we found that the studies before 2009 mostly focused on clinical trials while researchers have paid more attention to clinical management in therapy for IBD since 2009. Combination therapy and management of the treatment for the disease have become research hotspots.ConclusionThe focus of immunotherapy and biotherapy for IBD has shifted from clinical trials to the management of the risks and benefits of immunotherapy.

Project description:BackgroundMicroglia have been identified for a century. In this period, their ontogeny and functions have come to light thanks to the tireless efforts of scientists. However, numerous documents are being produced, making it challenging for scholars, especially those new to the field, to understand them thoroughly. Therefore, having a reliable method for quickly grasping a field is crucial.MethodsWe searched and downloaded articles from the Web of Science Core Collection with "microglia" or "microglial" in the title from 2002 to 2021. Eventually, 12,813 articles were located and, using CiteSpace and VOSviewer, the fundamental data, knowledge domains, hot spots, and emerging trends, as well as the influential literature in the field of microglia research, were analyzed.ResultsFollowing 2011, microglia publications grew significantly. The two prominent journals are Glia and J Neuroinflamm. The United States and Germany dominated the microglia study. The primary research institutions are Harvard Univ and Univ Freiburg, and the leading authors are Prinz Marco and Kettenmann Helmut. The knowledge domains of microglia include eight directions, namely neuroinflammation, lipopolysaccharide, aging, neuropathic pain, macrophages, Alzheimer's disease, retina, and apoptosis. Microglial phenotype is the focus of research; while RNA-seq, exosome, and glycolysis are emerging topics, a microglial-specific marker is still a hard stone. We also identified 19 influential articles that contributed to the study of microglial origin (Mildner A 2007; Ginhoux F 2010), identity (Butovsky O 2014), homeostasis (Cardona AE 2006; Elmore MRP 2014); microglial function such as surveillance (Nimmerjahn A 2005), movement (Davalos D 2005; Haynes SE 2006), phagocytosis (Simard AR 2006), and synapse pruning (Wake H 2009; Paolicelli RC 2011; Schafer DP 2012; Parkhurst CN 2013); and microglial state/phenotype associated with disease (Keren-Shaul H 2017), as well as 5 review articles represented by Kettenmann H 2011.ConclusionUsing bibliometrics, we have investigated the fundamental data, knowledge structure, and dynamic evolution of microglia research over the previous 20 years. We hope this study can provide some inspiration and a reference for researchers studying microglia in neuroscience.

Project description:ObjectiveTo examine the association between depression and clinical outcomes in heart failure (HF) in a community cohort.Patients and methodsHF patients in Minnesota, United States completed depression screening using the 9-item Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9) between 1st Oct 2007 and 1st Dec 2011; patients with PHQ-9≥5 were labelled "depressed". We calculated the risk of death and first hospitalization within 2 years using Cox regression. Results were adjusted for 10 commonly used prognostic factors (age, sex, systolic blood pressure, estimated glomerular filtration rate, serum sodium, ejection fraction, blood urea nitrogen, brain natriuretic peptide, presence of diabetes and ischaemic aetiology). Area under the curve (AUC), integrated discrimination improvement (IDI) and net reclassification improvement (NRI) compared depression as a predictor against the aforementioned factors.Results425 patients (mean age 74, 57.6% males) were included in the study; 179 (42.1%) had PHQ-9≥5. The adjusted hazard ratio of death was 2.02 (95% CI 1.34-3.04) and of hospitalization was 1.42 (95% CI 1.13-1.80) for those with compared to those without depression. Adding depression to the models did not appreciably change the AUC but led to statistically significant improvements in both the IDI (p = 0.001 and p = 0.005 for death and hospitalization, respectively) and NRI (for death and hospitalization, 35% (p = 0.002) and 27% (p = 0.007) were reclassified correctly, respectively).ConclusionDepression is frequent among community patients with HF and associated with increased risk of hospitalizations and death. Risk prediction for death and hospitalizations in HF patients can be improved by considering depression.

Project description:Background and aimsThe gut microbiota is involved in the regulation of pain, which is proved by plenty of evidence. Although a substantial quantity of research on the link between the gut microbiota and pain has emerged, no study has focused on the bibliometric analysis of this topic. We aim to present a bibliometric review of publications over the past 20 years and predict research hot spots.MethodsRelevant publications between 2002 and 2021 were extracted from the Science Citation Index-Expanded (SCI-EXPANDED) of the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) database on April 22, 2022. CiteSpace (version 5.8 R3c), VOSviewer, the Online Analysis Platform of Literature Metrology, and the R package bibliometrix were used to analyze and visualize.ResultsA total of 233 articles have been published between 2002 and 2021. The number of publication outputs increased rapidly since 2016. The collaboration network revealed that the USA, Baylor College of Medicine, and Vassilia Theodorou were the most influential country, institute, and scholar, respectively. Alimentary pharmacology and therapeutics and Gut were the most co-cited journal and Neurogastroenterology and Motility was the most productive journal. Visceral sensitivity, fibromyalgia, gastrointestinal, chronic pain, stress, gut microbiome, LGG, brain-gut axis, SLAB51, and sequencing were the top 10 clusters in co-occurrence cluster analysis. Keyword burst detection indicated that the brain-gut axis and short-chain fatty acid were the current research hot spots.ConclusionResearch on the links between the gut microbiota and pain has increased rapidly since 2016. The current research focused on the brain-gut axis and short-chain fatty acid. Accordingly, the SCFAs-mediated mechanism of pain regulation will be a research direction of great importance on the links between the gut microbiota and pain. This study provided instructive assistance to direct future research efforts on the links between the gut microbiota and pain.

Project description:BackgroundBibliometric analysis was designed to investigate a systematic understanding of developments in exercise and osteoporosis research over the past 20 years.MethodsRelevant publications from the Web of Science Core Collection were downloaded on April 26, 2022. CiteSpace, VOSviewer, and the online bibliometric analysis platform were used to conduct this scientometric study.ResultsA total of 5518 publications were in 1202 academic journals with 137405 co-cited references in by 5637 institutions from 98 countries/regions. The country leading the research was the USA. The University of Melbourne was the most active institution. Osteoporosis International was the most productive journal concerning exercise and osteoporosis research. According to the burst references, "low-level vibration," "high-frequency" and "resistance exercise" have been recognized as the hotspots research in the domain. The keywords co-occurrence analysis identified "skeletal muscle," "sarcopenia" and "mesenchymal stem cell" as the important future research directions.ConclusionThis study was the first comprehensive metrological and statistical analysis of exercise and osteoporosis research over the past 20 years. Our findings would provide guidance to understand the research frontiers and hot directions in the near future.

Project description:Background Oxidative stress leads to an increase in reactive oxygen in the body. During heart failure (HF), when the body’s antioxidant defense system fails to remove excessive reactive oxygen species, myocardial cells will be damaged or even die. Over the past ten years, the number of research publications on oxidative stress related to HF has increased. Methods We searched publications published in 2012–2021 and the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) recording information. Based on the VOSviewer and CiteSpace, we conducted a bibliometric analysis of the overall distribution of journals, keywords, authors, major countries, annual output, active institutions, and cocited literature. The Global Citation Score (GCS) was used to evaluate the impact and quality of highly cited papers. Results We retrieved 5,616 articles and reviews. Over the past ten years, the number of annual publications on oxidative stress related to HF has increased. USA has published the largest number of articles and obtained the highest number of citations (NC) and H-index. The University of California and PLoS One are the most productive affiliations and journals in terms of publications on oxidative stress related to HF. The GCS of articles written by Paulus WJ in 2013 was 1,632, which was the top ranking. The most frequent keywords are “oxidative stress”, “heart failure”, “inflammation”, “dysfunction” and “apoptosis”. The top three authors are Kang Yuming, Ren Jun and Okoshi Katashi. “Impact“, “induced myocardial infarction”, “cardiovascular outcome”, “empagliflozin”, “sglt2 inhibitor”, “protect”, and “Na+/H+ exchanger” have become popular research topics. Conclusions Our research shows the research focus and development trends of oxidative stress related to HF in the past decade. Understanding the most important indicators of oxidative stress related to HF and the hot spots in the field of oxidative stress research related to HF can assist scholars, countries and policy-makers in the field in better understanding oxidative stress related to HF and can also lead to better decisions in oxidative stress treatment.

Project description:BackgroundThe incidence of heart failure, the terminal stage of several cardiovascular diseases, is increasing owing to population growth and aging. Bidirectional crosstalk between the gut and heart plays a significant role in heart failure. This study aimed to analyze the gut-heart axis and heart failure from a bibliometric perspective.MethodsWe extracted literature regarding the gut-heart axis and heart failure from the Web of Science Core Collection database (January 1, 1993, to June 30, 2023) and conducted bibliometric and visualization analyses using Microsoft Excel, CiteSpace, VOSviewer, and the R package "bibliometrix."ResultsThe final analysis included 1646 articles with an average of 35.38 citations per article. Despite some fluctuations, the number of articles published per year has steadily increased over the past 31 years, particularly since 2018. A total of 9412 authors from 2287 institutions in 86 countries have contributed to this field. The USA and China have been the most productive countries, with the Cleveland Clinic in the USA and Charité-Universitätsmedizin Berlin in Germany being the most active institutions. The cooperation between countries/regions and institutions was relatively close. Professor Tang WHW was the most productive author in the field and the journal Shocks published the highest number of articles. "Heart failure," "gut microbiota," "trimethylamine N-oxide," and "inflammation" were the most common keywords, representing the current research hotspots. The keyword burst analysis indicated that "gut microbiota" and "short-chain fatty acids" are the current frontier research topics in this field.ConclusionResearch on the gut-heart axis and heart failure is increasing. This bibliometric analysis indicated that the mechanisms associated with the gut-heart axis and heart failure, particularly the gut microbiota, trimethylamine N-oxide, inflammation, and short-chain fatty acids, will become hotspots and emerging trends in research in this field. These findings provide valuable insights into current research and future directions.
