Nursing of Pike-Perch (Sander lucioperca) in Recirculating Aquaculture System (RAS) Provides Growth Advantage in Juvenile Growth Phase

ABSTRACT:

Simple Summary

High flesh quality, along with a good potential for intensive farming in a Recirculating Aquaculture System (RAS), make the pike-perch (Sander lucioperca) a valuable fish species both from the industry and the research point of view. Although high electricity demands have been attributed to it, fish farming in a RAS is recognized as the key strategy for sustainable fish farming, given its minimal usage of natural resources as well as its independence of outdoor weather conditions. Although the older juvenile stages of pike-perch are well adapted to indoor rearing conditions, the larval and early juvenile stages seem to be particularly sensitive to indoor rearing. Switching to the indoor production of pike-perch larvae would support the continuous, weather-independen
