<i>BAP1</i> is a powerful tumor suppressor gene characterized by haplo insufficiency. Individuals carrying germline <i>BAP1</i> mutations often develop mesothelioma, an aggressive malignancy of the serosal layers covering the lungs, pericardium, and abdominal cavity.
