<i>Bacillus thuringiensis</i> subsp. <i>kurstaki</i> (<i>Btk</i>) is a strong pathogen toward lepidopteran larvae thanks to specific Cry toxins causing leaky gut phenotypes. Hence, <i>Btk</i> and its toxins are used worldwide as microbial insecticide and in genetically modified crops, respectively, to fight crop pests.
