Tau is an intrinsically disordered neuronal protein in the central nervous system. Aggregated Tau is the main component of neurofibrillary tangles observed in Alzheimer's disease. In vitro, Tau aggregation can be triggered by polyanionic co-factors, like RNA or heparin.
