The human mitochondrial RNA splicing 2 protein (MRS2) has been implicated in Mg<sup>2+</sup> transport across mitochondrial inner membranes, thus having an important role in Mg<sup>2+</sup> homeostasis critical for mitochondrial integrity and function.
