Coccomyxa subellipsoidea is an oleaginous, non-motile unicellular green microalga isolated from Antarctica, and is an attractive candidate for CO<sub>2</sub> fixation and biomass production. C. subellipsoidea is the first polar green alga whose genome has been sequenced.
