Translation initiation is a highly regulated, multi-step process that is critical for efficient and accurate protein synthesis. In bacteria, initiation begins when mRNA, initiation factors, and a dedicated initiator fMet-tRNA<sup>fMet</sup> bind the small (30S) ribosomal subunit.
