ABSTRACT: The advancing or active margin is a critical region in plant pathology, representing the leading edge of infection where the pathogen actively colonizes and invades healthy host tissue. Understanding this zone is essential for diagnosing plant diseases, as it reveals the most dynamic interactions between host and pathogen. These figures illustrate the colonization pattern of a fungal pathogen at the advancing margin of infected host tissue. The images highlight the distinct transition between the visibly necrotic zone and the actively expanding infection front, shown from both symptom-level and microscopic perspectives. The advancing margin marks the critical interface where the pathogen invades healthy tissue, whereas the necrotic zone indicates the region of tissue death following colonization. Collectively, these visualizations demonstrate the progression of fungal infection within host tissue and emphasize the diagnostic importance of sampling the advancing margin during disease assessment.
