ABSTRACT: The Ni(II) atom in the title salt, [Ni(C??H??N?O)?](NO?)?, is N,N',O-chelated by two neutral Schiff base ligands in a distorted octa-hedral geometry. One nitrate ion inter-acts with the metal atom indirectly, in an outer-sphere type of coordination, through N-H?O hydrogen bonds; the other nitrate ion does not engage in any inter-actions and is equally disordered over two positions in the crystal.

Project description:The asymetric unit of the title compound, [Fe(C5H5)(C17H13N2)], contains two independent mol-ecules whose conformations differ, especially in the 4-{(pyridin-4-yl)methyl-idene]amino}-phenyl unit where one is flipped by almost 180°. The cyclo-penta-dienyl rings of the ferrocene unit also exhibit different staggered conformations: in one mol-ecule the conformation is staggered by 9.43 (2)° and in the other by 24.46 (1)° from an ideal eclipsed geometry. The plane of the benzene ring is tilted away from the ferrocene group in both mol-ecules, with dihedral angles of 6.97 (1) and 10.30 (2)°. The benzene ring is also slightly twisted from the plane of the pyridine ring, with dihedral angles of 5.98 (2) and 6.51 (2)° in the two mol-ecules.

Overall, the mol-ecule is disk-shaped with the imidazole ring located above the remainder of the mol-ecule and with the dihedral angles of 10.97?(15) and 12.11?(15)°, respectively, between the imidazole ring and the phenyl and methyl-benzene rings; the dihedral angle between the aromatic rings is 8.17?(14)°. Within the urea unit, the N-H atoms are anti to each other and one of the N-H atoms forms an intra-molecular N-H?N hydrogen bond. Helical supra-molecular chains along [001] are formed via N-H?N(imidazole) hydrogen bonds in the crystal structure. These are connected into a three-dimensional architecture by C-H?O(carbon-yl) and C-H?? inter-actions.

Project description:The title compound, [Ni(C13H11N4S2)2], was obtained by the reaction of S-2-picolyldi-thio-carbazate and pyridine-2-carbaldehyde with nickel(II) acetate. The Ni(II) atom is located on a twofold rotation axis and is bonded to four N atoms at distances of 2.037 (8) and 2.109 (9) Å, and to two S atoms at a distance of 2.406 (3) Å, leading to a distorted octa-hedral coordination. The angle between the mean planes of the coordinating moieties of the two symmetry-related tridentate ligands is 83.3 (2)°. In the crystal, complex mol-ecules are linked by weak C-H⋯S hydrogen bonds, π-π inter-actions between the pyridine rings [centroid-centroid distance = 3.775 (9) Å] and C-H⋯π inter-actions. The hydrogen-bonding inter-actions lead to the formation of layers parallel to (010); π-π inter-actions link these layers into a three-dimensional network.

Each Ni(2+) cation is coordinated in a cis-mode by two tridentate N,N',S-chelating Schiff base ligands, creating a distorted octa-hedron [the smallest angle being 77.57 (7)° and the widest being 168.97 (7)° for one mol-ecule, and 78.04 (7) and 167.55 (7)° for the second mol-ecule]. The dihedral angle between the mean coordination planes of the two ligands is 86.76 (7)° for one and 89.99 (7)° for the second mol-ecule. π-π inter-actions between neighbouring pyridine rings with plane-to-plane distances of 3.540 (1) and 3.704 (1) Å are observed.
