<h4>Background</h4>New therapeutic targets for antibiotic-resistant bacterial pathogens are desperately needed. The bacterial surface polysaccharide poly-β-(1-6)-N-acetyl-glucosamine (PNAG) mediates biofilm formation by some bacterial species, and antibodies to PNAG can confer protective immunity.
