Thrombospondin 1 (TSP1) is a matricellular glycoprotein that can be secreted by many cell types. Through binding to extracellular proteins and/or cell surface receptors, TSP1 modulates a variety of cellular functions. Since its discovery in 1971, TSP1 has been found to play important roles in multiple biological processes including angiogenesis, apoptosis, latent transforming growth factor-β activation, and immune regulation. Thrombospondin 1 is also involved in regulating many organ functions. ...[more]
