Data survey on public-private professionals role in building control measures within the Nigerian construction industry.
ABSTRACT: The data survey focused on building control measures which are critical in attaining sustainable built environment. The data examined the public and private professional?s performance of building control measures and its barriers in Lagos. The targets consist of sixty (60) construction experts in public and private construction firms operating in Lagos. The sample size was generated from the pool of registered construction professional?s from private and public construction organizations in Lagos using random sampling technique. Descriptive statistics and inferential tests which include Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney U tests were performed on the dataset generated. The data harvested will avail the construction expert?s in public and private construction industry on the need for partnership in a bid to enhance building control measures performance in Lagos.
Project description:Integrating social client relationship management (CRM 2.0) in the built environment can enhance the relationship between construction organizations and client towards sustaining a long and lasting collaboration. The data exploration analyzed the e-readiness of contracting and consulting construction firms in the uptake of CRM 2.0 and the barriers encountered in the adoption of the modern business tool. The targeted organizations consist of seventy five (75) construction businesses operating in Lagos State which were selected from a pool of registered contracting and consulting construction firms using random sampling technique. Descriptive statistics of the e-readiness of contracting and consulting construction firms for CRM 2.0 adoption and barriers limiting its uptake were analyzed. Also, inferential analysis using Mann-Whitney U statistical and independent sample t-test was performed on the dataset obtained. The data generated will support construction firms on the necessity to engage in client social relationship management in ensuring sustainable client relationship management in the built environment.
Project description:This article is a description of data related to the research article entitled "Factors influencing e-Procurement adoption in the Nigerian Building Industry" (Ibem et al., 2016) . The data were derived via a questionnaire survey involving 213 participants comprising architects, quantity surveyors, builders, construction/project managers, and engineers working in consulting and contracting firms, private client organisations and government agencies. The survey was conducted in Nigeria between June and November 2015. The data set contains responses on the levels of awareness and extent of use of the different e-Procurement technologies, the barriers to the uptake as well as the factors influencing e-Procurement adoption by organizations in the Nigerian building industry. The survey data and results of the analysis are made available in this article for further use by researchers; and for the purpose of improving understanding of the key findings of the survey.
Project description:This dataset conducted a comparative analysis of sustainable construction practices of foreign and indigenous construction firms in Lagos state, Nigeria using a structured questionnaire survey. The dataset contains the level of awareness and consistency of practice of sustainable development on construction projects between the foreign and indigenous construction firms and the impact of implementing sustainable development practices. Descriptive analysis such as frequencies, percentage and mean score were used to present the quantitative data in form of tables. Further analysis of the dataset highlight the practices of indigenous and foreign construction firms in sustainable development which can be beneficial to stakeholders in environmental protection and mitigating climate change issues.
Project description:Nearly one-half of all construction projects exceed planned costs and schedule, globally . Owners and construction managers can analyze historical project performance data to inform cost and schedule overrun risk-reduction strategies. Though, the majority of open-source project datasets are limited by the number of projects, data dimensionality, and location. A significant global customer of the construction industry, the Department of Defense (DoD) maintains a vast database of historical project data that can be used to determine the sources and magnitude of construction schedule and cost overruns for many continental and international locations. The selection of data provided by the authors is a subset of the U.S. Federal Procurement Data System-Next Generation (FPDS-NG), which stores contractual obligations made by the U.S. Federal Government . The data comprises more than ten fiscal years (1 Oct 2009 - 04 June 2020) of construction contract attributes that will enable researchers to investigate spatiotemporal schedule and cost performance by, but not limited to: contract type, construction type, delivery method, award date, and award value. To the knowledge of the authors, this is the most extensive open-source dataset of its kind, as it provides access to the contract data of 132,662 uniquely identified construction projects totaling $865 billion. Because the DoD's facilities and infrastructure construction requirements and use of private construction firms are congruent with the remainder of the public sector and the private sector, results obtained from analyses of this dataset may be appropriate for broader application.
Project description:<h4>Objective</h4>To estimate the impact of State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) expansions on public and private coverage of dependents at small firms compared with large firms.<h4>Data sources</h4>1996-2007 Annual Demographic Survey of the Current Population Survey (CPS).<h4>Study design</h4>This study estimates a two-stage least squares (2SLS) model for four insurance outcomes that instruments for SCHIP and Medicaid eligibility. Separate models are estimated for small group markets (firms with fewer than 25 employees), small businesses (firms under 500 employees), and large firms (firms 500 employees and above).<h4>Data collection/extraction methods</h4>We extracted data from the 1996-2007 CPS for children in households with at least one worker.<h4>Principal findings</h4>The SCHIP expansions decreased the percentage of uninsured dependents in the small group market by 7.6 percentage points with negligible crowd-out in the small group and no significant effect on private coverage across the 11-year-period.<h4>Conclusions</h4>The SCHIP expansions have increased coverage for households in the small group market with no significant crowd-out of private coverage. In contrast, the estimates for large firms are consistent with the substantial crowd-out observed in the literature.
Project description:A clear picture of the influential drivers of private family firm performance has proven to be an elusive target. The unique characteristics of private family owned firms necessitate a broader, non-financial approach to reveal firm performance drivers. This research study sought to specify and evaluate the themes that distinguish successful family firms from less successful family firms. In addition, this study explored the possibility that these themes collectively form an effective organizational culture that improves longer-term firm performance. At an organizational level of analysis, research findings identified four significant variables: Shared Vision (PNS), Role Clarity (RCL), Confidence in Management (CON), and Professional Networking (OLN) that positively impacted family firm financial performance. Shared Vision exhibited the strongest positive influence among the significant factors. In addition, Family Functionality (APGAR), the functional integrity of the family itself, exhibited a significant supporting role. Taken together, the variables collectively represent an effective family business culture (EFBC) that positively impacted the long-term financial sustainability of family owned firms. The index of effective family business culture also exhibited potential as a predictive non-financial model of family firm performance.
Project description:This dataset covers an investigation into awareness and adoption of information and communication technology (ICT) in town planning firms in Lagos state, Nigeria. A survey of thirty (30) town planning firms in Lagos state, Nigeria was conducted. The survey was carried out between January to March 2017 by the use of questionnaires. The dataset contains responses on the factors that influence ICT usage, barriers and constraints of ICT usage. The five (5) point Likert scale was used for quantitative data analysis. The data can help identify the level of ICT usage, identify areas of concern and solutions can be proffered based on the results of the analysis.
Project description:We study the effects of the recent economic crisis on firms? bidding behavior and markups in sealed bid auctions. Using data from Austrian construction procurements, we estimate bidders? construction costs within a private value auction model. We find that markups of all bids submitted decrease by 1.5 percentage points in the recent economic crisis, markups of winning bids decrease by 3.3 percentage points. We also find that without the government stimulus package this decrease would have been larger. These two pieces of evidence point to pro-cyclical markups.

This data article provides information on the properties and cost of steel rebars used in reinforced concrete in Lagos, Nigeria. The data is based on the properties of 12?mm rebar brands which are the most used steel diameter in construction and they include actual diameters, yield strengths, ultimate strengths, ultimate/yield strength ratio, ductility and the cost of each brand. This data also contains the limiting standard properties of the highlighted properties in this data.
Project description:This dataset focuses on the causes and effects of sick building syndrome among users of selected facilities in Lagos. A mixed research approach of field measurement and cross-sectional survey was adopted. Descriptive statistics were implemented on the data acquired and are reported on tables and figures. The significance of this data leverages on providing insight and consciousness of sick building syndrome to users and occupants of constructed facilities. The survey dataset when analyzed can show direction on physical quantities levels that can be experienced in public buildings in tropical region.
