Project description:The diagnostic accuracy and safety of colonoscopy highly depends on the quality of the pre-procedural bowel preparation. A past history of poor bowel preparation is the most important risk factor of inadequate bowel cleansing at the next colonoscopy. This study aims to evaluate if an adequate level of bowel cleansing can be achieved with the Pure-Vu System in patients with previous poor bowel preparation, in a single arm international multicenter feasibility study.

Project description:Transcriptome analysis was performed on the rhizome tissues of Atractylodes macrocephala under different treatments. The four treatments were: sterile water irrigation alone, FS root irrigation, FS and AM201 root irrigation, and FS combined with methyltobuzin (TM) root irrigation. And the differential genes between AM201 and FO groups were identified and compared, which helps to reveal the resistance mechanism of AM201 to Atractylodes macrocephala root rot disease

Project description:In order to study the effect of protease treatment on dissected testes, we performed different strategies of cleaning and dissociation on Drosophila melanogaster w1118 larval testes. We collected testes without protease treatment with fatbody just attached around the gonad, fatbody alone dissected from around the testes, testes without fatbody and testes dissociated by either by Papain or Trypsin and Collagenase cocktail. We prepared poly A+ RNA-Seq libraries and performed transcriptional profiling to generate 50 bp stranded single end reads.

Project description:In order for flexible sigmoidoscopy to be a successful screening procedure, the bowel must be free of solid matter so the endoscopist has a clear view, increasing the chance of detection of abnormalities. This is achieved through the use of bowel cleansing preparations, which are administered prior to the procedure. Enemas are the preferred method as they clear the lower bowel more quickly than oral formulations and do not require dietary restrictions.
The medical device being tested in this clinical investigation is NER1008, an enema which contains PEG3350 (polyethylene glycol 3350). PEG3350 is an osmotic agent, which holds the water content in the rectum and sigmoid colon, consequently increasing stool volume, resulting in rectal distension and subsequent distal colon emptying. The increased colonic luminal content stimulates the motility, propulsive transportation and rectal evacuation of the distal colon content.
This study is designed to assess the performance of NER1008 in bowel cleansing and compare this with the performance of Fleet enema, which is widely used for this purpose.

Project description:Despite the astonishing diversity of life, evolutionary biologists have documented numerous instances where species converge in how they behave, look, and function. Given the importance of happenstance in evolution, it is often assumed that mechanisms driving independent evolution of similar phenotypes (convergence) are distinct; yet recent discoveries suggest that conserved genomic mechanisms can underlie convergent traits. Here, we generate forebrain transcriptomes from six sympatric Labridae wrasses that vary in mutualistic cleaning behavior and apply differential gene expression, co-expression, and phylogenetic comparative analyses to address three questions. First, do neurotranscriptomes vary among species with distinct cleaning behavior? Second, do species that have independently evolved facultative cleaning share neurotranscriptomic patterns? Third, are transcriptomic signatures linked to facultative cleaning also expressed in obligate cleaners? We identify shared neurotranscriptomic patterns in the repeated evolution of facultative cleaning, including 25 novel candidate genes. We then find that transcriptomic patterns associated with facultative cleaning are shared in our focal obligate cleaner species, with more genes than expected by chance with concordant expression patterns in obligate and facultative cleaners. Our results illuminate the neuromolecular basis of cooperative behavior and demonstrate the predictive potential of comparative transcriptomics to unravel the mechanistic underpinnings of the repeated evolution of complex phenotypes.
