Peristomal Skin Complications and Quality of Life

ABSTRACT: This study is a single blind semi-experimental study. Aim: To investigate the effect of standardized care on peristomal skin complications and quality of life in colorectal cancer patients undergoing ostomy surgery. H1: Standard stoma care which is established evidence-based guides and complication algorithm, reduces peristomal skin complications in patients with colorectal cancer and an ostomy. H2: Standard stoma care which is established evidence-based guides and complication algorithm, increases the quality of life in patients with colorectal cancer and an ostomy.

Integrative epigenomic analyses of early-life hypothalamic response to augmented maternal care [miRNA]

Project description:The quality of maternal care in early-life plays a crucial role in mammalian neurodevelopment. Augmented maternal care (AMC) is a well-established rodent model of enhanced neonatal care. Rats that have undergone AMC have improved stress resilience and cognition compared with rats that have experienced normal levels of maternal care or adverse neonatal stress. However, the epigenomic basis of long-lived responses to AMC has not been previously explored. Thus, we employed whole-genome bisulfite sequencing (WGBS), RNA-sequencing (RNA-seq), and a multiplex microRNA (miRNA) assay to assess DNA cytosine methylation, gene expression, and miRNA expression, respectively. The integrated results identify a suite of 20 prioritized candidates impacted by AMC. Overall, these results identified AMC-induced regulatory differences in genes related to neurotransmission, neurodevelopment, protein synthesis, and oxidative phosphorylation in addition to the expected stress response genes. Together, these unbiased results represent a key progression in understanding the complex mechanisms underlying the early-life mechanisms for AMC programming stress resiliency.

Identifying Non-Invasive Molecular Correlates relevant to Irradiation-Skin Burn Combined Injuries

Project description:Currently there is growing concern with respect to scenarios where people are likely to be presented with radiation exposure along with many kinds of other injuries such as trauma and infection. The potential for such scenarios was brought to reality with the events and aftermath of the Fukushima nuclear disaster in Japan. As such medical complications arising from such exposures would be poorly dealt with as no evidence-based guidelines exist for their rehabilitation or recovery. Our research intends to differentially characterize combined radiation and burn injuries and identify novel pathways and biomarkers. Such findings will lead to better medical practices in the diagnosis, care and rehabilitation of affected individuals. The study includes four groups of mice: 1) Control sham mice group (n=4), 2) Skin burn injury mice group (n=6), 3) Radiation injury mice group (n=6), 4) Combined radiation and burn injury mice group (n=6).

Stoma Neuro Linguistic Programming Stoma Adaptation Quality of Life

Project description:The aim of this study is to examine the effect of NLP techniques on stoma compliance and quality of life in patients with stoma. The study will be conducted using a prospective randomized controlled single-blind clinical trial model. The research will consist of patients with temporary or permanent colostomy/ileostomy, who are hospitalized in Mersin City Training and Research Hospital. Research data will be obtained with demographic questionnaire, Adjustment Scale for Individuals with Ostomy and Stoma Quality of Life Scale. Analysis of the study data will be done through the IBM SPSS Statistics 26 package program. While evaluating the study data, frequencies (number, percentage) for categorical variables and descriptive statistics (mean, standard deviation) for numerical variables will be given. Statistical significance in the analyzes will be interpreted at the 0.05 level.
