Bowel Cleansing Performance of the Pure-Vu System in Patients With a History of Poor Bowel Preparation

ABSTRACT: The diagnostic accuracy and safety of colonoscopy highly depends on the quality of the pre-procedural bowel preparation. A past history of poor bowel preparation is the most important risk factor of inadequate bowel cleansing at the next colonoscopy. This study aims to evaluate if an adequate level of bowel cleansing can be achieved with the Pure-Vu System in patients with previous poor bowel preparation, in a single arm international multicenter feasibility study.

A trial to compare efficacy and tolerability of Plenvu and Picoprep as cleansing agents of the large bowel before colonoscopy (examination ofthe bowel with a fiberoptic device)

Project description:Primary objectives: Aim of the study is to compare the efficacy and tolerability of the relatively new bowel preparation Plenvu with the well established bowel preparation Picoprep as cleansing agents before colonoscopy. This is to test whether the low volume Polyethylin Glycol-electrolytes lavage solution preparation Plenvu would have non-inferior efficacy on bowel preparation compared with Picosulfate based Picoprep with a better effect on compliance and tolerability. Primary endpoints: The primary endpoint is the efficacy of cleansing preparations measured by the quality of cleansing. This is done using the validated Harfield Cleansing Scale. The cleansing quality is measured after dividing the colon into 5 segments (Rectum, sigmoid colon, Descending colon, Transverse colon, and Ascending colon/Cecum) and each segment is scored from 0 (irremovable heavy hard stool) to 4 (empty and clean), then a total grade is given. Grade A (all segments scored 3 or 4) and B (one or more segments scored 2) are considered as successful cleansing. Grade C (one or more segments scored 1) and D (one or more segments scored 0) is considered unsuccessful cleansing8.

A Randomized Prospective Trial Comparing Low-volume Bowel Preparation Methods

Project description:Colonoscopy is a common screening method to detect polyps and CRC. With the early detection of CRC through screening colonoscopy, patients could have better therapeutic effects and outcomes. In population screening programs, an increase in completed colonoscopies is related to a decrease in mortality from CRC. However, the miss rate for detecting colorectal neoplastic polyps of colonoscopy is 5-28%. The reluctance of participants to undergo bowel preparation results in the relatively low rate of detection of polyps and CRC, because poor preparation interferes with successful colon mucosa examination during a colonoscopy. Low-volume bowel preparations provide equivalent cleansing effect compared with standard 4 liter polyethylene glycol. However, studies comparing the superiority between low-volume bowel preparations are rare, and results are controversial. This study aimed to compare the bowel cleansing quality and tolerability between split-dose sodium picosulfate/magnesium citrate and polyethylene glycol with ascorbic acid.

Evaluation of Reduced-volume PEG Bowel Preparation Administered the Same Day of Colonoscopy

Project description:The conventional total dose of 4 L of polyethylene glycol (PEG) given the day before the procedure is safe and effective. It has been the standard cleansing regimen for the last 25 years. To overcome the difficulty in completing the bowel preparation due to large volume and/or taste, reduced-volume (mixed) bowel preparation of bisacodyl and 2 L of PEG have been shown to provide adequate colon cleansing and better tolerability. LoVol-esse is a reduced-volume PEG-based bowel preparation to be used in combination with bisacodyl and designed to improve patient tolerability and attitude toward bowel cleansing prior to colonoscopy thanks to the reduced volume and improved taste. The present study is intended to compare the new dosing regimen of the bowel lavage solution given the same day compared with standard PEG formulation (SELG 1000) given the day before colonoscopy.

Transcription profiles of rectal biopsies obtained during diagnostic colonoscopy for pediatric inflammatory bowel diseases.

Project description:RNA was isolated from rectal biopsies from 190 pediatric patients undergoing diagnostic colonoscopy for inflammatory bowel diseases, including Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. Single-end, 75-bp sequencing was performed, and raw reads aligned to the human genome using Gencode v 24 as reference. We included 14085 protein-coding mRNA genes in downstream analyses, where cutoffs of fold change>1.5 and FDR<0.05 were considered significant.
