Everyday-based general and visceral surgical case volume, outcome and quality assurance (real world data) in the elective and emergency setting of a university clinic in a consecutive patient cohort with regard to the season and the influence of the CoVID-19 pandemic

ABSTRACT: Interventions: Group 1: All patients who have undergone general and visceral surgical operations in the period from October 5th to October 19th, 2020 and April 6th to April 20th, 2021 will be included in the registration - the general and specific complication rates (morbidity) and - 30-day / hospital mortality (early postoperative outcome) retrospectively evaluated and compared under the conditions of everyday surgical practice. Primary outcome(s): 1. Project description:Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality after trauma. Here, we integrate metabolomics and proteomics in up to 680 individuals with and without DVT after trauma (pt-DVT) to reveal the metabolic alterations and their function, and provide potential biomarkers. We carried out a nested case-control study design using a prospective cohort, which enrolled 680 Chinese Han subjects diagnosed with acute traumatic fractures at the Department of Trauma Surgery, Honghui Hospital (Xi’an, China) from October 2018 to October 2022. There were 183 subjects (DVT patients: N=96, Controls: N=87) were used for proteomics analysis.

Prinary breast cancers and brain metastasis

Project description:Sixteen paired matched samples from primary breast cancers and brain metastases diagnosed between April 1, 2001 and December 31, 2012 were collected from 8 institutions. Brain metastases were identified based on magnetic resonance imaging and/or computed tomography findings. The clinical characteristics of all the patients were obtained from their medical records. This study was approved by the institutional review board of each participating institute (Tokai University School of Medicine; National Hospital Organization Osaka National Hospital; Kinki University School of Medicine; Niigata Cancer Center Hospital; Shizuoka General Hospital; Hokkaido Cancer Center; National Hospital Organization, Tokyo Medical Center; and Gunma Prefectural Cancer Center). Matching primary breast cancers and brain metastases Formalin-Fixed Paraffin-Embedded (FFPE) specimens for gene expression analysis were collected into RNA. RNA from specimens was isolated, and quantity and quality of the each RNA was using an Agilent 2100 Bioanalyzer (Agilent Technologies). Genome-wide expression levels of transcripts were analyzed using the Affymetrix U133A gene chips (Affymetrix) according to the manufacture’s instructions.

Expression data from mouse spleens after experimental stroke

Project description:Infection is a major complication and cause of mortality and morbidity after acute stroke however the mechanisms are poorly understood. After experimental stroke the microarchitecture and cellular composition of the spleen are extensively disrupted resulting in deficits to immune function. We used microarray to determine differentially expressed genes in the spleens of mice after experimental stroke to determine contributers to immunosuppression after stroke. We extracted RNA from spleens from 3 mice 5 d after experimental stroke when we have shown peak disruption to cellular composition and also from spleens from 2 sham-operated control mice for comparison.
