Impact of Digital Tools on the Quality of Bowel Preparation for Colonoscopy

Project description:This is a single blinded randomized controlled study. The main question of this study is whether better preparation by making full use of digital tools can increase patient compliance with the preparation methods for colonoscopy, and as a result improve bowel preparation quality and colonoscopy outcomes in a cost-effective manner. Participants will randomly assigned to one of three colonoscopy preparation groups (i) a written hand out containing all information required for bowel preparation (standard care) (ii) standard care and in addition a video call with a professional nurse conducted via digital devices and a free software (Zoom video communication or What’s app application) (iii) standard care and in addition to a video call as described above using an explanatory short video on bowel preparation (video film), streamed to the patient’s mobile device or computer.

Project description:This is a randomized controlled trial designed to assess the efficacy of a novel smartphone application as an automated reminder tool in improving the quality of bowel preparation for patients undergoing outpatient colonoscopies. The investigators will be comparing the smartphone application to traditional instructions for bowel preparation. The quality of bowel preparation will be assessed using the Ottawa and Aronchick bowel preparation scales.

Evaluation of the effect of reinforced education on colonoscopy

Project description:Intervention 1: Intervention group: On the day of going to the clinic, pamphlets were given to the participants regarding the use of laxatives for bowel preparation. In the reinforced education, on the day before the colonoscopy, the time to use laxatives and adherence to a fiber-free diet were emphasized in a phone call, and reminder messages were sent to them. Also, through Instagram and WhatsApp, educational files about bowel preparation, including clips and software, were sent to them and their questions were answered. Intervention 2: Control group: On the day of going to the clinic, pamphlets were given to the participants regarding the use of laxatives for bowel preparation,. Primary outcome(s): Patient satisfaction. Timepoint: 48 hours after colonoscopy. Method of measurement: researcher made tool for satisfaction.;Health anxiety. Timepoint: before and after education.
