Project description:Skin and intact fascia were collected from 15 normal control (NC) patients with no hernia history and 18 patients presenting for recurrent incisional hernia (RH) repair. Microarray analysis was performed using whole genome microarray chips on NC (n = 8) and RH (n = 9). These samples were further investigated using a pathway-specific PCR array containing fibrosis-related genes.

Hernia After Colorectal Cancer Surgery

Project description:Defects in the abdominal wall (incisional hernia) is a frequent negative outcome after surgery. Reinforcing the incision with mesh seem to lower the incidence but in surgery that includes bowel resection a simple alternative, cheaper and less prone to infection than a synthetic mesh, would be of interest. The primary aim of this multicentre randomized controlled trial is to compare the incisional hernia incidence one year after planned colorectal cancer surgery performed through a midline incision which is closed either by a standardized small stitch 4:1 technique (the incision is closed with the use of suture of 4 times the length of the incision) or with the same technique plus a reinforced tension-line suture (a suture is applied in the fibrous tissue parallel to the incision which is then embraced by the 4:1 suture when the incision is closed). A difference in incisional hernia of 15% (20% without and 5% with reinforced tension-line suture) is assumed. Secondary aims are to evaluate incidences of wound dehiscence, other wound complications and incisional hernia after 3 years. Furthermore we aim to evaluate patient satisfaction and quality of life.

Project description:we collected tissues of subcutaneous fat and longissimus dorsi (LD) muscle from individuals that have divergent of backfat thickness and intramuscular fat content, and have similar age and body weight. The transcriptomic and proteomic data were gained using RNA-Seq and TMT to identify the key genes and pathways that specifically regulate the subcutaneous fat and intramuscular fat deposition in Dingyuan pig.

Impact of the non-muscle cutting periumbilical transverse incision on the risk of incisional hernia compared to the midline incision during laparoscopic colorectal cancer surgery: A randomized controlled multi-center trial

Project description:Interventions: Procedure/Surgery : Incision for removal or anastomosis of colon tissue is performed by extending the laparoscopic incision horizontally. A transverse incision is made in the anterior fascia of the rectus muscle. The abdominal rectus muscle is not incised, but the muscles are lateralized out to find the posterior fascia and peritoneum and incise horizontally. Project description:Analysis of embronic day 30.5 (E30.5) fetal rabbit left lung after creation of diapragmatic hernia (DH) at E25 and tracheal occlusion (TO) at E27. The fetuses of timed pregnant New Zealand rabbits were subjected to creation of a left diaphragmatic hernia at E25 with or without tracheal occlusion at E27. At E30.5, the fetuses were sacrificed with collection of the lateral aspect of the left upper lobe for NextGen mRNA sequencing.
