Maternal genomic variability of the wild boar (Sus scrofa) in West-Russia, Europe and North-Africa

ABSTRACT: Due to the fact that genetic analysis of the whole mtDNA has been an efficient and widely used tool in understanding evolution and diversity of several animal species, we present a large-scale study on geographic variation in the complete mtDNA genomes of wild boars from Russia (including West Siberia and Eastern Caucasus), Europe, and North-Africa. Our results provide insights into the contemporary genetic structure and past demographic processes of wild boar populations under the effects of glaciations and possible human manipulations.
