MicroRNA profile in the cervical mucus of the cervical neoplasia


ABSTRACT: Cervical mucus was collected from 86 patients with a normal cervix, cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN), squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), or adenocarcinoma (AD). 76 candidates of miRNAs were selected according to criteria such as absolute value of the signal intensity included more than 20 and the ratio of the SCC/normal or AD/normal included more than four. Overall design: Cervical mucus was collected from 86 patients with a normal cervix, cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN), squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), or adenocarcinoma (AD). The expression level of microRNAs in cervical mucus was compared with normal and cervical neoplasia by microarray including 2588 miRNAs. Cervical mucus was collected from 86 patients with a normal cervix, cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN), squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), or adenocarcinoma (AD). The samples were classified into normal (n = 16), CIN1 (n = 11), CIN3 (n = 29), squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) (n = 19), and adenocarcinoma (AD) (n = 11). 76 candidates of miRNAs were selected according to criteria such as absolute value of the signal intensity included more than 20 and the ratio of the SCC/normal or AD/normal included more than four.

microRNAs (miRNAs) play important roles in regulation of gene expression during cervical carcinogenesis. We investigated expression profiles of miRNAs in cervical cancer and its precursor lesions by utilizing cervical mucus.
