This tumor has been exensively investigated and sequenced but expression profiling data of normal fallopian tube epithelial cells is still rare. This project compares the miRNA profiles of high grade serous papillary ovarian tumors (FFPE and fresh frozen) to that of normal unmatched epithelial cells from resected fallopian tubes.

Project description:Gene expression profiling in 50 glial brain tumors and 4 normal brains using 42,000-feature cDNA microarrays (from total RNA). Tumors: 50 fresh-frozen glioma specimens subjected to standard WHO classification. Specimens included astrocytic [2 juvenile pilocytic astrocytomas, 1 low-grade astrocytic glioma, 1 anaplastic astrocytomas, 31 glioblastomas (of these 2 secondary glioblastomas and 2 gliosarcomas)], oligodendroglial [5 oligodendrogliomas, 3 anaplastic oligodendrogliomas], and 6 anaplastic oligoastrocytomas tumors. Project description:Summary: Astrocytomas can be categorized as either low grade or high grade (glioblastoma). Low grade astrocytomas are not generally aggressive tumors whereas glioblastomas are and in turn have a high mortality rate. Project description:The goal of the study was to examine the transcriptional profile of ovarian cancer cancers in order to develop validated clinically useful prognostic signatures with the potential to guide therapy decisions. Fresh frozen samples were prospectively collected from a series of 107 consecutive women with high-grade serous ovarian, primary peritonial, or fallopian tube cancer as well as high grade clear cell and endometrioid cancer who underwent surgery by a gynecologic oncologist at Mayo Clinic between 1994 and 2005. All patients received postoperative chemotherapy with a platinum agent, and 75% received a taxane. All patients signed an Institutional Review Board approved consent for bio-banking, clinical data extraction and molecular analysis. Median follow-up time was 35 months (range, 1-202 months). Fourteen patients (8%) were included in the TCGA study.
