Peripheral Blood miRNA Transcriptomic Analysis for Salmonella Infection in Pig

ABSTRACT: Peripheral blood transcriptome is an important intermediate data source for investigation of the mechanism of Salmonella invasion, proliferation, and transmission but its development in pig is quite limited. We challenged four-week-old piglets (Duroc × Landrace × Yorkshire crossbred) with Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium LT2 and investigated the peripheral blood miRNA expression profile before treatment (d0) and at 2 days post inoculation (dpi) using deep sequencing technology.

The difference between diarrhea piglets and normal piglets

Project description:Sixty crossbred piglets (Duroc*Landrace*Yorkshire) weaned at the age of 21 days were maintained for one week and had free access to feed and water. High concordance between SNPs identified by the porcine 60K BeadChip genotyping array (Illumina) and the whole-genome sequencing

Project description:Crossbreeding has been an effective method to improve crossbred performance in pig industry. To have a global view of a classic three-way crossbreeding system of Duroc x (Landrace x Yorkshire) (DLY), we identified SNPs for each pig breed and crossbred individual originated from a DLY pig family to estimate the influence of purebreds on crossbred offspring using whole-genome sequencing. To confirm the accuracy of the SNPs identified by whole-genome sequencing, therefore, we performed the porcine 60K BeadChip genotyping array (Illumina) for each sequenced pig individual.

Project description:The experiment aimed at studying gene expression differences in longissimus dorsi muscle from pigs from two groups: High versus low intramuscular fat (IMF). The animals were selected from a crossbred population of Landrace x Yorkshire/Landrace x Duroc animals, where we have previously found a highly significant QTL for IMF (Grindflek et al. 2001: "Detection of quantitative trait loci for meat quality in a commercial slaughter pig cross", Mammalian Genome 12(4): 299-304), and by microarray analysis we hoped to identify candidate genes for the QTL and/or pathways that are affected by the genes responsible for the QTL. Quantitative proteomic analysis of zearalenone-induced jejunum damage in weaned piglets

Project description:A total of 16 healthy Duroc × Landrace × Yorkshire weaned piglets (35 d of age) with an average body weight (BW) of 12.39 ± 0.24 kg were randomly allotted to two treatments with 8 piglets per treatment. The weaned piglets in the control group were fed the basal diet, and the ZEA3.0 treatment was the basal diet supplemented with 3.0 mg/kg ZEA. The basal diet prepared according to the National Research Council (NRC, 2012) The official experimental period was 32 days. After the experiment, four jejunum samples from each group were randomly selected for proteomic analysis.
