Regulation of actin cytoskeleton signaling pathways improves egg-production through up-regulation of integrin beta family genes expression in ducks

ABSTRACT: Ovaries transcriptomic profiling between of egg of three high number of laying eggs (HEN) and three low number of laying eggs (LEN) in Longyan Shan-ma duck at 71 weeks were sequenced using Illumina Hiseq 2500 technology.

miRNA expression profiling in liver of juvenile and egg-laying hens

Project description:A total of 565 miRNAs annotated in miRBase 20.0 were identified to be expressed in the liver of hen by high-throughput sequencing three biological reduplication libraries in juvenile and egg-laying hens, respectively. Compared with juvenile hen, 80 miRNAs (67 down-regulated and 13 up-regulated) were verified to be significant differential expression (SDE) in egg-laying physiological stage. Among these, miR-22-3p has the highest abundant expression, and miR-146b-5p has the highest fold-change. Additionally, 19 of the 71 novel miRNAs was significantly expressed. Furthermore, 648 putative target genes of the SDE miRNAs were obtained, and among these, FADS1, FADS2, ELOVL6, ACSL5, etc which are lipid metabolism related critical regulators are targeted by some SDE miRNAs. Gene Ontology (GO) analyses to the putative target genes of all the SDE miRNAs showed significantly enriched in Steroid biosynthesis, Glycerophospholipid metabolism, Biosynthesis of unsaturated fatty acids, and PPAR signaling pathway (P ≤ 0.05). Meanwhile, GO terms are also significantly enriched in lipid related biological processes.

Transcriptomic analysis of ovaries from ducks with high and low egg production

Project description:Gene expression differences between the ovaries of Jingding duck with high and low egg production were assessed using the RNA-Seq technology. A total of 843 differentially expressed genes were identified. These genes have known or potential roles in regulation the egg production. Therefore, they are appealing candidates for further investigation of the gene expression and associated regulatory mechanisms related to egg production of ducks.

Life history shapes variation in egg composition in a wild passerine

Project description:Maternal investment directly shapes early developmental conditions and therefore has long-term fitness consequences for the offspring. In oviparous species prenatal maternal investment is fixed at the time of laying. To ensure the best survival chances for most of their offspring, females must equip their eggs with the resources required to perform well under various circumstances, yet the actual mechanisms remain unknown. Here we describe the blue tit egg albumen and yolk proteome and evaluate its potential to mediate maternal effects. We show that variation in egg composition (proteins, lipids, carotenoids) primarily depends on laying order, female age and paternity (within- versus extra-pair) and that the investment in the egg proteome is functionally biased among eggs. Our results suggest that maternal effects on egg composition result from both passive and active (partly compensatory) mechanisms, and that the between- and within-clutch variation in egg composition creates diverse biochemical environments for embryonic development.

Spider mite egg extract modifies Arabidopsis response to future infestations

Project description:Transcriptional plant responses are specially under the scope on herbivore oviposition studies. However, most of the information comes from Lepidopteran models, where egg laying and feeding are separate events, and little is known regarding the plant reaction to those pests where females feed and oviposit simultaneously. The present study unveiled the oviposition-induced transcriptomic response of plants to Tetranychus urticae eggs. Transcriptional evidence indicated that the early events on the plant response to the egg extract involved ATP, Ca2+ and ROS disbalances. The main phytohormones triggered were JA and ET, with which also participated secondary metabolites, volatiles and glucosinolates as defence mechanisms. Many of the regulated genes are also involved during pathogen-defence mechanisms. Negative regulation of defence mechanisms happened at 72 h. Female fertility was significantly reduced when fed on plants pre-exposed to the eggs, while feeding increased on those plants pre-exposed for 72 h.

Study shows a significant reduction in the severity of the disease and increased survival of the laying hens fed with flaxseed.
