AGATA: First nationwide molecular screening program in Spain for patients with advanced breast cancer

ABSTRACT: The SOLTI-1301 AGATA study aimed to assess the feasibility of a multi-institutional molecular screening program to better characterize the genomic landscape of advanced breast cancer (ABC) and to facilitate patient access to matched-targeted therapies in Spain. Between September 2014 and July 2017, 305 patients with ABC from 10 institutions were enrolled.

Investigating the transition of Apis mellifera summer workers to diutinus workers using proteomic techniques.

Project description:Apis mellifera workers in temperate climates display two castes; short lived summer bees that engage in nursing, hive maintenance and foraging, and long lived winter bees (diutinus bees) which remain within the hive and are essential for thermoregulation. Label free quantitative proteomic analysis was conducted on A. mellifera workers sampled from July to October 2019 to compare the proteomes of workers as the colony progresses through the year. Proteomic analysis revealed a shift in protein expression in workers in September and October in comparison to July and August samples. Workers samples in September and October had a higher abundance of proteins associated with oxidative phosphorylation and storage proteins such as hexamerin. Interestingly, a shift in protein expression was detected in newly emerged bees between July to October, providing evidence that workers have adapted to emerge with a different protein profile in preparation for the winter months.

Plasma metabolomic signatures of COPD

Project description:The NIH sponsored multicenter Genetic Epidemiology of COPD (COPDGene (ClinicalTrials.gov Identifier: NCT01969344) study was approved and reviewed by the institutional review board at all participating centers (1). All study participants provided written informed consent. This study enrolled 10,198 non-Hispanic white (NHW) and African American (AA) individuals from January 2008 until April 2011 (Phase 1) who were aged 45-80 with ≥10 pack-year smoking history and no exacerbations for >30 days. In addition, 465 age and gender matched healthy individuals with no history of smoking were enrolled as controls (mostly at Phase 2). From July 2013 to July 2017, 5,697 subjects returned for an in-person 5-year visit. Each in-person visit included spirometry before and after albuterol, quantitative CT imaging of the chest, and blood sampling. From two clinical centers (National Jewish Health and University of Iowa) 162 subjects at Phase 1 (all NHW) and 1,136 subjects (1,040 NHW, 96 AA) participated in an ancillary study in which they provided fresh frozen plasma collected using an 8.5 ml p100 tube (Becton Dickinson) at Phase 2.
