Project description:Chinese medicine is a complex system guided by traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) theories, which has proven to be especially effective in treating chronic and complex diseases. However, the underlying modes of action (MOA) are not always systematically investigated. Herein, a systematic study was designed to elucidate the multi-compound, multi-target and multi-pathway MOA of a Chinese medicine ,QSYQ, on myocardial infarction. Male Sprague Dawley rat model of myocardial infarction were administered QSYQ intragastrically for 7 days while the control group was not treated. The differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified from myocardial infarction rat model treated with QSYQ, followed by constructing a cardiovascular disease (CVD)-related multilevel compound-target-pathway network connecting main compounds to those DEGs supported by literature evidences and the pathways that are functionally enriched.

Project description:Sparstolonin B is a novel bioactive compound isolated from Sparganium stoloniferum, an herb historically used in Traditional Chinese Medicine as an anti-tumor agent. SsnB has previously demonstrated anti-angiogenic properties. In functional assays, SsnB inhibited endothelial cell tube formation (Matrigel method) and cell migration (Transwell method) in a dose-dependent manner. We used microarrays to examine how SsnB affected the gene expression of human coronary artery endothelial cells (HCAECs), focusing in particular on pathways related to angiogenesis.

Project description:To identify biomarkers regulated by traditional Chinese medicine Astragalus membranaceus Fischer Bge. var. mongolicus Bge. Hsiao in colorectal cancer. We have identified several differentially expressed genes including microRNAs using Affymetrix HTA-2.0 array. In this dataset, we include the expression data obtained from colon cancer cell line HCT116 grafted into nude mice. The mice was treated either water or traditional Chinese medicine Astragalus membranaceus for 28 days. These data are used to obtain 1425 genes that are differentially expressed in response to Astragalus membranaceus treatment.
