YlaN is an iron binding protein that is required to relieve Fur-mediated gene expression
Ontology highlight
ABSTRACT: Iron (Fe) is an essential nutrient required by nearly all organisms. Due to the toxic nature of free-Fe, and the high demand forFe for metabolic processes, protein-based systems have evolved to tightly regulate the uptake of Fe and the usage of Fe. Fur is the master regular of Fe ion homeostasis in Staphylococcus aureus. We have discovered that YlaN works with Fur to regulate Fe uptake and central metabolism.
ORGANISM(S): Staphylococcus aureus
