Comprehensive analysis of hypoxia-dependent expression of myelin-related genes in Schwann cells
Ontology highlight
ABSTRACT: Schwann cells (SC) generate myelin sheath in the peripheral nervous system. Several specific genes have been identified in SC during development of peripheral nerves. Expression of these genes has been also found in SC of peripheral nerves after injury or in demyelinating disorders. However, it remains unclear how these genes regulate SC differentiation and peripheral myelination. Here, we show the hypoxia induced factor-1α (HIF-1α) involvement in the regulation of SC differentiation and myelination. We used ChIL-seq technology to understand the comprehensive HIF-dependent gene expression in SC during myelination.
