The identification of long noncoding RNA's in various mitotic stages in A549 cells.

ABSTRACT: Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs), the most abundant RNA type in mammalian cells, exhibit highly tissue- and cell type-specific expression. They are typically over 500 nucleotides long, with recent estimates predicting their number to be between 31,000 and 58,000. The complex regulation of gene networks during interphase has been extensively studied. Interphase, comprising the G1, S, and G2 phases, supports critical cellular processes such as replication, transcription, and translation. In contrast, these processes are minimized during mitosis to maintain basal gene expression levels, ensuring the restoration of interphase-specific gene expression patterns after mitosis. Although there is growing insight into the persistence of interphase-specific gene regulatory mechanisms during mitosis, our understanding of the interphase-specific gene networks involved in mitosis-specific functions remains limited. Additionally, the mechanisms underlying the transition from interphase to mitosis-specific functions, including the role of lncRNAs in this transition, are not well understood. Here, we identified differentially expressed lncRNAs throughout the mitotic stages using RNA sequencing.
