Neuron-targeted caveolin-1 enhances the neuroprotective, neuronal and synaptic plasticity transcriptome and improves cognitive function in symptomatic Alzheimer’s Disease models

ABSTRACT: Previous work demonstrated that hippocampal delivery of AAV9-synapsin-promoted Cav-1 (SynCav1) to presymptomatic PSAPP mice alleviate neurodegeneration. Thus, the current study further investigated the effect of SynCav1 delivery at post-symptomatic age in the PSAPP mice. Transcriptional analysis revealed that SynCav1-treated PSAPP mice exhibited a gene profile that more closely resembled age-matched wild-type (WT) mice. Gene Ontology (GO) enrichment analysis identified decreased neurodegeneration-specific pathways together with enhanced synaptic and cognitive-related transcriptome pathways in SynCav1-treated animals.
