ABSTRACT: To investigate the effect of Hanlianxiang (HLX) for treatment of androgenetic alopecia, shaved C57BL/6J mice were induced with dihydrotestosterone and treated with extract of HLX every day. The skin samples were collected at 10 and 15 days after treatment.

Interrogation of transcriptome differences between BAB and BAN after dihydrotestosterone (DHT, active metabolite of androgen) treatment revealed significant enrichment of vasculature-related genes among down-regulated genes in BAB compared to BAN.

Protein Profiling of Forehead and Scalp Corneocytes in Androgenetic versus Frontal Fibrosing Alopecia

Project description:Protein profiling offers an effective approach to characterizing the departure from normal of epidermis in disease states. The present investigation tested the hypothesis that the differentiation of epidermal corneocytes is perturbed in the forehead of subjects exhibiting frontal fibrosing alopecia. To this end, samples were collected by tape stripping from subjects diagnosed with this condition and compared to those from asymptomatic control subjects and from those exhibiting androgenetic alopecia. Unlike the latter, which exhibited only 3 proteins significantly different from controls, forehead samples from frontal fibrosing alopecia subjects displayed 72 proteins significantly different from controls, nearly two-thirds having lower expression. Comparison to corresponding profiles in scalp samples from frontal fibrosing alopecia and androgenetic alopecia suggested the perturbation of epidermal differentiation in the former was even greater in the scalp.

Analysis of regulation of immortalized human conjunctival epithelial cells by dihydrotestosterone at gene expression level. The hypothesis tested in the present study was that the androgen-eye interaction in ocular surface epithelial cells like conjunctival cells is influenced by androgens through regulation of the expression of multiple genes. Results provide important information of the differential regulation of numerous genes in response to dihydrotestosterone incubation of immortalized human conjunctival epithelial cells.
