Caspofungin interferes with Candida albicans iron homeostasis
Ontology highlight
ABSTRACT: In this study we used a transcriptomic approach to determine whether caspofungin could impact iron homeostasis in Candida albicans, the most frequent cause of invasive candidiasis. Caspofungin affects iron homeostasis by inducing a high iron response. Caspofungin treatment leads to a downregulation of genes involved in iron uptake, while genes associated with iron storage and detoxification, as well as the transcription factor SFU1 that regulates the cell response to high iron, are upregulated.
