Epithelial BMP signaling regulates gastric tissue responses upon H. pylori infection
Ontology highlight
ABSTRACT: In the gastric mucosa, BMP signaling is known to regulate the differentiation of progenitor epithelial cells into differentiated pit secretory mucous cells thanks to BMP ligands production in stromal cells located at the gland pit and to BMP antagonists secretion at the gland base. Upon Helicobacter pylori infection there is an alteration of ligands and antagonists production which ultimately results in BMP signaling downregulation in the gastric epithelium. We investigate the correlation of BMP signaling downregulation with the development of hyperplasia and inflammation exploiting a conditional mouse model that allows the inhibition of BMP signaling in gastric glands via Axin2CreErt2:Bmpr1a fl/fl.
