Single-cell RNA sequencing reveals hormone-induced transcriptomic reprogramming in human vaginal epithelial organoid

ABSTRACT: In this study, we performed single-cell RNA-seq on human vaginal epithelial organoids (hVEO) following estrogen (E2) and progesterone (P4) treatment. Analysis identified proliferating, basal, progenitor, parabasal, and squamous cells. Hormones minimally influenced proliferation but significantly affected differentiation, altering cellular composition and gene expression. This provides valuable insights into the hormonal regulation of human vaginal epithelium.
