Transcriptome analysis of three Bacillus cereus strains comparing non-conditioned growth medium (nk) with conditioned (k; pre-incubated with CaCo-2 cells), accomplished by RNA sequencing

ABSTRACT: Enteropathogenic Bacillus cereus can cause toxico-infections manifesting in diarrhea and abdominal pain. It is still not completely understood why individual isolates differ in enterotoxin production and pathogenicity, and which signals trigger toxicity in the host environment. The overall transcriptional response of three formerly well-characterized strains to a simulated intestinal environment was assessed in the present study. Two high toxic strains F837/76 = MHI 1505 and NVH 0075-95 = MHI 3053, and one low toxic strain RIVM BC90 = MHI 3178 were investigated.
