The Impact of Liver Transplantation on the Expression Profile of Small RNAs in Plasma Exosomes of Patients with Respiratory Symptoms Similar to Hepatopulmonary Syndrome

ABSTRACT: This study is centered on the alterations in the expression of small RNAs within plasma exosomes before and after liver transplantation. A subset of patients exhibited respiratory symptoms similar to hepatopulmonary syndrome prior to liver transplantation, which severely affected their quality of life and health status. By conducting small RNA sequencing on the plasma exosomes of these patients before and after liver transplantation, the aim was to comprehensively analyze the changes in the small RNA expression profile induced by the transplantation surgery. The results demonstrated a remarkable alleviation of the respiratory symptoms resembling hepatopulmonary syndrome in patients after transplantation. Further bioinformatics analysis revealed a series of small RNAs with differential expression before and after transplantation. These molecules may play pivotal roles in the occurrence and development of respiratory symptoms associated with hepatopulmonary syndrome, as well as in the recovery process after liver transplantation. This research provides novel insights into the pathogenesis of hepatopulmonary syndrome and the molecular effects of liver transplantation treatment, and is expected to open up new avenues for the diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis assessment of related diseases in the future.
