DMEM and EMEM as alternate growth media for pathogenic Leptospira
Ontology highlight
ABSTRACT: Pathogenic Leptospira spp. must adapt to diverse environments during their life cycle, yet most laboratory studies rely on in vitro culture conditions that poorly reflect the host environment. This limitation restricts the relevance of transcriptomic studies for understanding leptospiral pathogenesis. In this study, we evaluated genome-wide gene expression of Leptospira interrogans grown in four different in vitro media—EMJH, DMEM, EMEM, and HAN—and compared their transcriptomic profiles to those obtained from bacteria recovered from the whole blood of infected hamsters.
