Resolving inflammation to promote stem cell-based bone regeneration
Ontology highlight
ABSTRACT: Bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stromal/stem cells (BMSC) are widely studied for their potential in regenerative therapies for bone defects. However, the therapeutic efficacy of BMSC is strongly influenced by interactions with the host immune system, particularly T lymphocyte subsets. Emerging evidence suggests that while some T cells can impair BMSC-mediated bone healing, regulatory T cells (Treg) may enhance it by promoting a balanced immune environment.
