The role of transcription factors PES1 in Diabetic Retinopathy
Ontology highlight
ABSTRACT: Diabetic retinopathy is the most common microvascular complication of diabetes, also as a common blinding eye disease. The transcription factor Pescadillo ribosomal biogenesis factor 1 (PES1) has been reported to be involved in many biological processes such as tumorigenesis, cellular senescence, and disorders of glucolipid metabolism. However, the role of PES1 in transcriptional regulation in DR is unclear. Here, we utilized ChIP-seq to determine the differences in gene regulation by PES1 in normal and high glucose-treated retinal microvascular cells. We found that PES1 was able to regulate a variety of angiogenic pathway-related genes, intercellular junction-related genes, and inflammation- and oxidative stress-related genes. These genes are differentially involved in the development of DR.Our results demonstrate that PES1 plays multiple roles in DR by regulating different genes.
