Multi-omics study of small Intestine adaptation after total colectomy.

ABSTRACT: Transcriptomic Evidence of Colonic Metaplasia To compare whether total colon resection leads to gene changes in the ileal anastomosis site, we performed transcriptome analysis of the preoperative small intestine, preoperative colon, and 16-week postoperative anastomosis site of the small intestine [32]. Through the analysis, we found significant differences in gene expression between the preoperative small intestine and colon (Figure 3A and B). Furthermore, we observed changes in gene expression at the anastomosis site, where the gene expression profile shifted from typical small intestine genes to colon genes (Figure 3C and D), indicating further evidence of colonic metaplasia at the anastomosis site after TC surgery, which leads to gene expression alterations at the anastomosis site.
