The study on the mechanism of AalpiRNA-58 in influencing midgut digestion and ovarian development in Aedes albopictus

ABSTRACT: The reproductive physiology of female mosquitoes is closely associated with the ingestion of vertebrate blood, a biological characteristic that not only provides essential nutritional support for the maturation of oocytes but also plays a crucial role in the transmission of vector-borne diseases. This study focuses on female Aedes albopictus individuals, with particular attention to the highly expressed piRNA molecules within their bodies. We aim to explore the expression patterns and molecular regulatory mechanisms of these non-coding RNAs during midgut digestion. Based on the female-specific piRNA expression profiles obtained from previous high-throughput screening, we systematically investigated their biological functions, emphasizing the regulatory roles and molecular mechanisms of piRNAs in the midgut digestive system. By deciphering the molecular regulatory network of piRNAs in the digestive and metabolic processes, this research provides new directions for the screening of molecular targets in mosquito sterility techniques, while offering theoretical foundations and innovative insights for the development of novel vector control strategies.
