Loss of CsrA in Acinetobacter baumannii leads to lethal dysregulation of alanine metabolism

ABSTRACT: We identified the transcription factor Lrp in a genetic screen to identify suppressors in an A. baumannii csrA mutant background. The CsrA null phenotype presents in part as a failure to grow in rich media, which we found was alleviated in strains lacking Lrp. As a transcription factor, we hypothesized that Lrp controls the expression of on ore more genes that represents the actual suppressor of the CsrA mutant strain. To test this hypothesis, we conducted RNA-seq to determine the repetoire of genes that are under regulatory control of CsrA in A. baumannii strain AB5075.
