Transcriptional landscape of Mycobacterium tuberculosis during active pulmonary tuberculosis in rabbits

ABSTRACT: Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb), the causative agent of Tuberculosis that kills millions of people each year, primarily infects the lungs. However, the bacterial adaptation during active tuberculosis in the lungs is not fully understood. Here, we report the transcriptional landscape of Mtb in the lungs of infected rabbits, compared to their growth in vitro in broth culture. Identification and characterization of Mtb transcript that contribute to lung pathogenesis will aid in developing intervention strategies to kill the bacteria effectively.
