A novel autopolysialylation activity of the ganglioside sialyltransferase ST8Sia5 regulates its secretion and enzyme activity
Ontology highlight
ABSTRACT: This study showed that ST8Sia5L is a novel self-polysialylating enzyme that modifies itself rather than NCAM. We found that this autopolysialylation regulates both the secretion of ST8Sia5L from cells and its conventional ganglioside-sialylation activity. These results suggest that polysialylation of ST8Sia5L plays an important role in controlling its function and extracellular behavior.
