Identification of Enhancers and Transcription Factors Regulating Developmental and Functional Maturation of Skeletal Muscle [RNA-Seq]


ABSTRACT: We investigated transcriptional differences in skeletal muscle between neonatal and adult cattle using RNA sequencing (RNA-seq). A total of 2,785 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified, including 1,416 upregulated and 1,369 downregulated genes in adult muscle compared with neonatal muscle. Genes upregulated in adult muscle included MYH7 and MB, whereas genes such as MYH3 and MYH8 were downregulated. Notably, several canonical adult muscle markers, including MYH1 and MYH2, did not show significant differential expression between developmental stages.
