Bulk RNA-sequencing of the dorsal and ventral hippocampus across age and parity in female rats
Ontology highlight
ABSTRACT: The hippocampus undergoes extensive cellular remodelling throughout life. Aging affects hippocampal structure, contributing to cognitive decline and neurodegenerative disease risk. Parity, as the experience of pregnancy and motherhood, triggers profound hormonal and metabolic changes which modulate brain plasticity in the short and long term. Here we generated bulk RNA-sequencing of the dorsal and ventral hippocampus from female Sprague-Dawley rats spanning three parity groups (nulliparous, primiparous, biparous) and two ages (7 months / 30 days postpartum and 13 months / more than 6 months postpartum) to quantify how parity and age shape hippocampal cellular composition and gene expression.
